Listed below are various University of California and University of California, Merced policies that operationalize the tenets of UC Merced's Principles of Community and support the aspirational goals of our Principles of Community.
If you believe you have witnessed or experienced hate, bias, harassment and/or discrimination, please visit the resources below for additional information:
BIRST is a University-wide team that receives information about bias incidents from individuals who have been a target of, or witnessed, an act of bias.
The role of the BIRST Team is to provide an opportunity for community members to have their voices heard, to facilitate anti-bias education, to mitigate or prevent similar occurrences in the future, advocate for a more inclusive and affirming campus, and to raise issues to appropriate campus entities.

Conflict and Crisis Resolution
UC Merced provides a host of resources and services — both formal and informal — to help resolve issues.
Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination
The Office of the Ombuds is a safe place where UC Merced community members can go for informal assistance with managing conflict, complaints, and concerns with a colleague, classmate, supervisor or anyone else on campus. Use of our office is always voluntary and talking with an omubdsperson does not constitute notice to the university for formal complaint. We operate under the International Ombuds Association's (IOA) ethical principles of confidentiality, neutrality, informality and independence.
