Blueprint for Healthy Departments is a multi-campus program at the University of California aimed at fostering healthy department climates by creating an easy-to-use process that sets departments up for success in assessing and addressing issues.
Blueprint seeks to make departments more inclusive for all by providing a step-by-step approach that includes a customizable climate survey “question bank” assessment tool to identify climate issues, a standardized “toolkit” to help departments appropriately implement solutions to identified challenges, and dedicated consultation, coaching, and guidance throughout the partnership.
Customization is at the heart of each level of the Blueprint Process. Departments can shape their Blueprint experience by customizing the tools they use, choosing the interventions most relevant to them, and tailoring how they implement, communicate, and evaluate their action plans. The framework is structured but flexible to local needs, contexts, and goals — so each department’s journey can look quite different.
The Blueprint Process
Introductory Conversations

Our process starts with a conversation to share program details, learn more about your department, and identify project leadership.
Localized Feedback
Based on initial conversations, the Blueprint team will provide a short, targeted survey to get specific and actionable data on your department.
Real-Time Analysis
Once feedback is collected, our team will analyze the data and create an easy-to-understand presentation.
Customized Plan
Once data is prepared, we will work with your team to create your customized toolkit and action plan.
Implementation & Analysis
Once your department's individualized blueprint is created,
we will continue to offer support as departments implement
and evaluate their internal DEI efforts.
