Valuing Black Lives Initiative (VBL)
The Valuing Black Lives Initiative (VBL) was launched by Chancellor Muñoz and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Camfield, in 2021, in recognition of the deleterious consequences of systemic Anti-Blackness and its misalignment with the UC Merced mission. The VBL delineated institutional commitments (e.g., scholarships, new positions, changes in practices/policies) spanning five years, and funded by a multi-million-dollar investment. EJIE serves as the coordinating unit for advancing progress and completion of the VBL components.
