Dia de los Muertos

Dia de Los Muertos

Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a vibrant Mexican holiday celebrated in November, honoring the spirits of departed loved ones with joyful reunions filled with food, drink, and festivities. The Division of Equity, Justice, & Inclusive Excellence honors this rich tradition by leading an annual Día de los Muertos celebration that centers community, remembrance, and cultural appreciation.

Each year, EJIE creates a collaborative Ofrenda that invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to honor loved ones through shared offerings and reflection. To further support learning and understanding, EJIE also develops a brochure that highlights the history and cultural significance of Día de los Muertos.

In 2025, our celebration was expanded to include both an in-person reception and a virtual Ofrenda, allowing broader participation while continuing to foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity across the UC Merced and Merced community.
