How to Apply for a Grant

Call for Proposals for UC Merced's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Grant

UC Merced’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (OEDI) is accepting proposals for projects that contribute to and enhance the campus’s culture as an equitable and inclusive place to study, conduct research, teach, work and live.  The name of the grant program has been changed to better emphasize:

  • "Equity vs equality" - implying that an individual may need to experience or receive something different (not equal) in order to maintain fairness and access, due to structural/ societal issues and not individual ones. 

  • The campus' newly written "Diversity" statement defines what "diversity" means to us as a campus community and

  • Inclusion is the act of creating environments in which any individual or group can be and feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued to fully participate. An inclusive and welcoming climate embraces differences and offers respect in words and actions for all people.

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Grant proposal program seeks to create and sustain a campus environment in which all UC Merced faculty and staff members and students feel respected, included and valued. The program is open to all faculty and staff members and students. Selected grants can be funded to an annual maximum of $5,000.00.

For the 2022-2023, we are looking for proposals with these themes:

  • Identity/Intersectionality Exlporation Initiatives
  • Collective Healing & Mental Wellness Initiatives
  • Resistance & Resilience Initiatives
  • Sense of Belonging Initiatives
  • Cultural Art/Expression Initiatives
Please follow the steps listed below to complete your grant application.
STEP 1: Determine if your project fits the grant proposal program criteria.
STEP 2: Make sure your organization or group and project is eligible for funding.
STEP 3: Read the Frequently Asked Questions, then attend an Information Session.
STEP 4:  Submit proposal to EDI grant submission and edi_grant_budget_template.xlsx by Sunday, March 13 at 11:59pm.
